Comparisons to the original series are going to be hard to avoid. I thought this reboot jumped right into the concept that the visitors are evil reptiles, where as the original series eased into that fact. I do like the concept of the mother leading the resistance while her teenage son marches off to align with the enemy. I also like that there is a staff reporter for the visitors who must be the propagandist, despite the moral conflicts he has. I also love the concept of the religious figure struggling with the concept of God and aliens. I think the size of the cast is very manageable for an opening series. I thought the writers did a good job of acquainting the audience with the key players. I think the special effects were pretty well done. Since I did watch the original series as a young'un, it's hard for me to view this show with fresh eyes. I think it might seem a little rushed to those who hadn't seen the original.
