Sophia asks Miranda to conduct a spinal tap on Barbara to see if she has meningitis. Miranda, Pam and Ryan try to figure out where Barbara got sick. Miranda orders Ryan to go to the airport to check if anyone got sick on Barbara's plane. Andy listens to Victor's lungs. Victor asks Andy if he believes in fate and he says he doesn't. Andy admits he doesn't believe, but it kept him alive, brought him to the hospital and introduced him to Kuol. He says he realizes he has a third option and would like to terminate life support and donate his heart to Kuol.

Kuol says he never expected someone would chose to die for him to get a new heart. He is confused whether or not he should be happy or sad. Andy tells him the hospital ethics board will determine if he is eligible to give up his heart. In the board room, Andy says he objects to Victor's choice to commit suicide. He suggests they wait until Victor recovers from surgery. The ethics board says they approve of the decision. Andy says they are not supposed to invite death. After Sophia calls for a vote, everyone but Miranda, Andy and another doctor vote against Victor's decision. After the vote, David briefs the team about Mike.

While Pam cares for Victor in his room, a mother brings in her daughter Missie who needs a liver transplant. Pam tells them they need to leave, but Victor says they can stay. Missie admits to Miranda that she is willing to do anything to get a new organ for her daughter. She tells David she thinks people talking to Victor about his organs is unethical and wrong.

Ryan tells Miranda he found the passenger who sat next to Barbara had listeriosis. Miranda explains that organ recipients who get listeria experience overwhelming sepsis. Miranda orders the nurses to administer a cure.

Victor informs Laurie he is going to donate his organs to people in need. She says he is not going to die, but Victor says he is going to take himself off life support. He explains he wants to take control of his life to help people. He says there is a difference between committing suicide and deciding to die. He says he is ready, but Laurie says she is not.

Andy tells Sophia he is against letting Victor commit suicide. He says he opened up a lot of chests and hasn't seen any God or souls. He says his doubt that there is anything beyond life makes him not want to operate.

Sophia visits with Victor and asks him if he is ready to turn off the machines. Victor agrees to sign the procurement authorization document, but before he does, Laurie walks in and grabs the paperwork. She explains she was given control of Victor's end of life decisions after he signed his living will.

Andy tells Victor he doesn't support his decision. Victor says death will always win out. Victor feels helpless knowing he won't be able to breathe, drive, swallow or talk. He says he wanted to beat ALS, but what he wants now is the best death he could ever have.

Andy brings Laurie to the Donor-Recipient Dinner. He shows her all the people who are alive because of the organ donation program. Andy says he realized he wasn't considering what Victor wants when he is going against her father's wishes. Laurie says she doesn't want to let go of her father, but Andy convinces her to let go by saying Victor wants her to think about all of the people he can save.

David tells Mike's family they have new lungs for his brother being donated by Victor. Pam gets Kuol prepped for surgery. Andy informs him he is going to be the one who will operate on him. After Pam checks Kuol's vitals, Andy learns that Kuol has a fever and won't be able to receive a heart. Andy tells him that since he is signed into the program provisionally, he is not eligible to receive a heart using the program. Andy tells Victor about Kuol. Victor asks to have his heart be placed in the program and have him operate to remove it. As Victor is wheeled into the operating room, the patients who are going to receive his organs line up to thank him. Laurie wishes Victor goodbye before Victor's life support is turned off.
