Bonnie becomes sleepy during class. After she sees a figure pass by the doorway, she steps into the hallway. She sees the image of Emily wearing a bonnet. She follows her to the woods. Emily asks her to help her since they are family. She points at the ruins of the church and says it's where everything started and where it has to end. Bonnie wakes up and discovers she is at the cemetery.

Elena sees that Caroline is mad at Bonnie. She explains that Bonnie won't give her necklace back. Matt says hello to Caroline then walks off. In class, Elena asks Bonnie if she is okay. The new history teacher says his name is Alaric Saltzman. He explains his family is from the town, but he grew up in Boston. He tells them to call him Ric.

At the mansion, Damon wakes up Stefan. Damon promises he won't kill anyone in a week. They make fun of each other as they role play each other.

Bonnie tells Elena she thinks Emily is trying to communicate to her through the necklace. Jeremy meets with Ric. The teacher says his old teacher had a file about him, but now he has a clean slate. Jeremy says he is going to turn around his grades. Ric suggests he do extra credit by writing a paper about local history. Jeremy notices Ric has a ring. Alaric says it used to be his father's.

Caroline asks Matt why he doesn't want to say anymore than hello to her. She says they cuddled the other night and can't believe he left. Matt explains he heard her mom and escaped through the window adding that he never really talked much to her in the past.

Elena tells Stefan he missed class. Stefan says he is not going to school anymore. Elena figures he wants to stay away from her. Stefan explains it would be easier if she hates him.
