Elena sneaks in the party and sees Stefan having a good time while playing pool with Lexi. Elena asks Damon what he did to his brother and explains he is acting different. Damon says he only took away his suffering.

A police officer discovers the body of the boy Damon killed. Lexi convinces the bartender to give her three tequila shots. She gives a drink to Elena. Elena is surprised she can consume alcohol and Lexi explains it helps with her cravings. She says that since she has known Stefan for over a hundred years, he is relaxed around her. She says the love of her life was human. Lexi encourages Elena to get back with Stefan. Elena tells Lexi it was nice to meet her. Stefan overhears Lexi and thanks her.

Forbes meets with the police officer and tells him to keep the body contained. She sees the boy's girlfriend and asks her what she saw.

Elena goes up to Stefan and tells him she couldn't miss his birthday. Matt sees that Caroline is drunk as she sits down with him. She asks him if he thinks she is shallow and explains she wants to be deep. Caroline starts to cry and says she thinks she is like a kiddy pool. She asks him if he can take her home. Matt carries her out of the restaurant. Forbes, who is outside, sees that her daughter is drunk and that the bartender served her. Matt says he will take her home. Forbes tells the other officer not to let anyone else leave.

Lexi asks Damon what he is doing in Mystic Falls. Damon says he has a diabolic master plan he can't tell her about. Forbes brings the girl who was attacked inside the restaurant and asks her to point out who attacked her boyfriend. She points toward Lexi and Damon. Forbes approaches Lexi and injects her with verbane. Lexi, who is weakened, is dragged out of the restaurant. She recovers and is able to push away the police officers. Forbes shoots Lexi several times, but she keeps coming towards her. Damon surprises Lexi and stabs her in the heart with a stake. Stefan and Elena come around the corner to see Damon murdering Lexi, but Stefan holds them back. Lexi asks Damon why and he says it is part of his plan. Damon pushes the stake deeper in Lexi's heart and kills her. Stefan asks Forbes if she is okay.

Forbes arrests the bartender for serving minors. She thanks Damon for saving her life. Meanwhile, Matt brings Caroline to her bedroom. He asks her if she is going to be okay, but she says no. She says she wishes her life was different. Matt tries to leave, but Caroline begs him not to leave her alone and convince him to hold her.

Stefan tells Elena that he has to kill Damon. Elena tells him not to, but he says Damon will not stop. Elena says she is worried he might get hurt, but he walks off. Stefan attacks Damon in the mansion. Damon admits he killed Lexi to make the others get off their trail. Stefan stabs Damon in the stomach with a stake and says he is not going to kill him since he saved his life. He informs Damon they are now even. Meanwhile, Bonnie has a dream where her ancestor tells her something is coming. In the morning, she wakes up and finds herself in the graveyard.
