In the middle of the night 1864, a carriage approaches Katherine who says her husband is hurt. She attacks the driver and the passenger and feeds on them. She tells Damon that is how it is done. She explains they will take the bodies where the wolves will eat their remains. Katherine asks Damon to kiss her blood drenched lips.

Damon wakes up Stefan and Elena in bed and tells them he has important business to discuss. He says they need to find the journal and the Grimoire to unlock the tomb. Damon describes the Grimoire as a witch's cookbook. They figure that there are other vampires who are looking for the book.

The show jumps back to 1864. In bed, Katherine shows her true side to Damon. Emily tells Katherine that Pearl is there to talk to her. Pearl asks how long she plans on staying with the Salvatores since people are talking about them. Katherine assures her no one knows her true nature. Pearl gives Katherine an elixir of vervaine that is being sold in town. They figure the people of Mystic Falls are becoming aware of them. Anna reveals that she is Pearl's daughter.

During the modern time, Anna tells Ben she is going to try to get the journal from Jeremy's teacher. She tells she chose to turn him into a vampire since he lacked purpose.

At the Gilbert house, Elena tells Stefan that she thinks Damon is motivated by love, but in a sick and twisted way. Stefan explains Damon enjoys inflicting pain onto humans. He says every time he lets his guard down, Damon takes advantage of it. Elena finds a photo that Stefan recognizes as Jonathan Gilbert. Jeremy comes down and tells them that he gave Jonathan's journal to Alaric.
