Sam, Patrick and Teresa arrive at Mia's family's house. They talk to Mia's sister Verona and her husband Duncan. Patrick asks how they made the money to buy such a nice house and Verona explains that they are in the oil and lumber industry. Sam is annoyed by Patrick's line of questioning. Belinda Sandborne introduces herself as Duncan and Verona's attorney. Teresa asks if there is anyone else in the family they should speak with and Verona says her parents are dead. Belinda asks about the other case and Teresa shows them a picture of Collin. Verona and Duncan don't recognize him. Verona is extremely upset. Patrick finds a young boy and Verona says he is her son Levi. Verona scolds Mrs. Kent, the caretaker, for letting Levi wander into the room.

A member from Sam's team shows them a video they received showing Mia reading a ransom note with instructions. Mia tries to call out to Verona, but the video is cut off. Sam notices a tattoo on the man in the video and says it looks like Mexican mafia. Patrick wonders why they are asking for 3.75 million since it is such a specific number. Teresa says she will talk to Sam about the possibility that the kidnappers have an eye on the Westlake's bank account.

Patrick walks in on Duncan and asks why he keeps tapping on his pocket. Patrick says he thinks he is nervous about something and suggests drugs. Verona tells Patrick to leave. Patrick tells Verona that she should stay off the drugs so she can help Mia.

Teresa finds Patrick outside and tells him it's time to go. He tells her he wants to stay, but she says he is just trying to get on Sam's good side to get information on Red John. Sam walks outside and tells Teresa to make Patrick leave. Duncan walks out and tells Sam to take Patrick off the case. Patrick says Duncan is just upset since he busted him on his drugs. Sam tells Duncan it isn't his call. Duncan threatens to have Sam reduced to a traffic cop. Verona walks out and thanks Patrick for his advice. She tells Duncan to leave Patrick alone.
