Twenty-three years ago, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Grey's Anatomy") raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it.

Sam and Dean spent their lives on the road, cruising America's highways in their 1967 Chevy Impala, battling supernatural threats and searching for the demon that killed their mother. Together with their father, they closed in on that demon. A bloody battle ensued, and the demon killed John before escaping.

Sam returns from hell and learns he was brought back by an angel to fight in the war between angels and demons.

Ghosts of the past visit the Sam and Dean. Castiel warns the brothers about the start of the apocalypse.

Dean goes back in time, meets his mother and grandparents, discovers a secret, and of course, fights demons.

Dean catches Sam with Ruby, the brothers fight a Roogaroo, and Sam makes a decision about his powers.

Sam and Dean fight vampires, werewolves, and mummies in a special black and white episode of Supernatural.

Dean becomes ill, leaving Sam to fight mostly on his own.

It's Halloween and the brothers are sent to determine the cause of some random killings in the small town. Sam also meets Castiel for the first time.

Sam and Dean search the internet for their next case. Sam comes across a story involving a woman, a shower, and a ghost and Dean says that they've found their next case.

Ruby tells Sam and Dean they need to save a girl named Anna from demons. Sam and Dean find out Anna can hear angels and realize that the demons want her so they can listen to the angel's plans. On the trip, Sam tells Dean why Ruby is so special to him.

This episode picks up the second half of the angel's and demon's battle to capture Anna, the girl who can hear angels.

Sam and Dean try to help a family who has just moved into a haunted house.

Sam and Dean investigate mysterious deaths during Magic Week.

Sam and Dean investigate a strange occurance at their old high school.

Sam and Dean investigate a series of husbands who killed their wives.

Sam and Dean investigate a small town that has had no deaths in ten days.

After the angels capture Alastair, Dean is called to use the torture techniques he learned in hell to obtain information.

Sam and Dean are in an alternate universe where they both work in an office building.

Sam and Dean find out that there is a book series based on their lives and their investigation leads them to Lilith.

Sam and Dean find out that they have a brother.

Sam and Dean find out that Castiel has been dragged back to Heaven.

Sam is held in Bobby's cell where he suffers from withdrawal of demon blood. Meanwhile, Dean is enlisted in the war against demons.

Dean races to find Sam before he breaks the final seal that will free Lucifer.

The final seal is broken and Lucifer is unleashed into the world. The brothers look for a way to stop the apocalypse, but Dean learns that he might have to make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the world.

Castiel calls the brothers to help him find God. Later, Sam and Dean come to the aid of Ellen, Jo and Rufus in a small town experiencing the beginning of the apocalypse.

Dean teams up with Castiel in his search to interrogate Raphael the archangel about God's whereabouts. Meanwhile, Sam tries to start a new life in Oklahoma, but discovers he can't run from his past.

Dean is brought to the future where he sees the consequences of not allowing Michael take over his body to fight Lucifer before the apocalypse.

While Sam and Dean investigate the murders of celebrity super fans, they discover that Paris Hilton is the killer.

The brothers travel to Nebraska to investigate a series of deaths that appear to have been inspired by children's myths. Later, they are given the choice to kill Jesse, a half demon and half human child, or risk losing the war against the demons.

The team plays a high stakes game of poker with a nine hundred year old witch. Meanwhile, Dean experiences what it is like living in Bobby's shoes.

During an encounter with the Trickster, the brothers find themselves playing roles in popular television shows.
