Vance tells Mike he doesn't look very remorseful. He explains the men didn't look like they meant him any harm. Gibbs explains that Leyla's family disowned her. Mike explains that Leyla's mother Shada is the head of a prominent Iraqi tribe. He says he doesn't think Shada is going to let Leyla live a happy life in Mexico. Vance asks what happened. He explains how he shot the men, loaded them on the boat then shot them again to make sure they were dead. Mike claims it was self defense. Vance orders Gibbs to take Mike's statement.

McGee finds Abby using a chain saw to take apart Gibb's boat. She tells him she found a secret box that is now empty. She also says she found a .22 bullet that was stuck in a .45 bullet. They call Tony and ask him if there is a hidden door in the basement. Abby and McGee finish their analysis of the bullets and finds one of them came from a third shooter.

Ziva plays with Amira. Leyla tells Ziva she fell in love with Liam at first sight. She says it was difficult to leave Iraq. Leyla tells Tony their home in Mexico was simple. Tony asks her if she was inside when the firefight started. He asks her where Amira was, but she doesn't respond.

McGee tells Gibbs how Shada became an influential person in Iraq. Ducky calls Gibbs to the lab. Abby and Ducky tell Gibbs they are there for an intervention. They explain that Mike is making the investigation more difficult. Ducky informs Gibbs that Mike is lying to them. They tell Gibbs that they think someone else shot the men. Gibbs figures someone with a rifle shot and killed the men and Mike covered it up by shooting them in their wounds with his own gun.

Gibbs takes Mike's statement before he completes it. Gibbs reminds him of a story about a boy who went hunting with his father's best friend. They boy accidentally shot the friend and brought the body back to his father. The father felt like he let both of them down, then shot the man with his own gun in order to protect his son. Mike rips up the report and asks him when he figured out what happened. McGee tells Gibbs that Shada is on her way to D.C.

McGee poses as a limo driver, picks up Shada and brings her to the office. Vance asks Mike how the report is going and he admits that Gibbs found out what really happened. Gibbs explains that Mike wanted to protect his family. Vance asks Mike to meet with Shada to work things out between her and her daughter. Mike enters the room and tells her she should know who he is. She tells him she has been tracking his every move ever since his son impregnated her daughter. Shada asks why he hid her family, but he says she disowned her. Shada says things changed and Leyla and Amira are her blood. Shada says she wanted to rescue her children from him. Shada says she was assured it would not turn violent. Mike says he didn't fire the first shot. He admits he wasn't ready when the men arrived because he was playing with his granddaughter. He says they saw the men pointing guns at them when he was on the boat. He says Leyla saw the men and shot them with a rifle. Mike tells Shada the family is safer with him than with her. Shada admits that she made a payment and Merton guaranteed he will get her family back.

Gibbs calls Ziva and informs them that Merton's men might be coming. A flash grenade is thrown in the room which knocks out Ziva and Tony. Masked men enter the house and one of them recognizes Ziva. The gunman, Damon, says he is there to rescue a daughter, but Ziva informs him he is actually going to kidnap. After an argument, Damon and Ziva knock out the rest of the men.

Later, Damon tells Merton he quits. Merton says he never broke any laws, but Gibbs says the Mexican authorities want him because bounty hunting is illegal in their country. Gibbs places him under arrest to hand him over to the Federales. Meanwhile, Shada visits Leyla, Mike and Amira at the house in Mexico.
