Eric says all the people who were shot were victims of drivebys. Callen says he worked with his team on a Russian operation set up by the CIA. Callen says that his Russian contact was a former KGB agent named Arkady Kolchek. They discover Arkady is now residing in California. Nate tells the team most of Callen's file has been redacted. While Nate and Kensi go through Arkady's file on Hetty's computer, they wonder if Hetty was the clearinghouse for all of the government's intelligence. They see that Arkady became wealthy after he left the KGB. While Hanna and Callen go towards Arkady's mansion, Eric says his mansion is highly secure. The team is able to hack into Arkady's GPS car system and see he is on the move. They follow him to a a farmer's market where he is accompanied by bodyguards. Hanna grabs a bagged bottle on the ground and pretends one of the bodyguards is the person his wife cheated with. As they get in an argument, Arkady is brought to his car where he finds Callen waiting for him. Arkady tells his bodyguard Callen is his friend. Arkady says he sent a Russian girl to warn him about the attacks. Arkady says he knew her when he was younger. Callen remembers the woman was named Alina.

Arkady brings Callen and Hanna to his mansion. Arkady says he remembers when Callen told him he was taught to speak Russian by Alina. Arkady says he heard rumors that someone was going to hurt them, so he hired Alina to contact him. Callen remembers he scared Alina away. Arkady says the people who shot Callen tried to kill him several times. Arkady suspects the killer is connected to the case they worked on which involved a Russian drug syndicate. He states that the syndicate is going to open up a gas pipeline to legitimatize their business. He says the deal is being brokered by an American businessman named John Cole. Arkady says he hired Alina to spy on Cole before she died. Arkady gives Callen his files on Cole.

Back at base, they examine the files that Arkady gave them. They see Cole was with a man named Max Tyrus who they suspect was the person who killed Alina. Eric says Cole doesn't have much on his record. Callen suggests they find Max Tyrus. Eric finds he has a cellphone. They see Tyrus just booked a private charter plane to Moscow. Callen gets on the phone, pretends he is Max and learns the flight is a one way trip that will take off in four hours. Callen figures since Cole is an oil refinery owner, he fears EPA inspectors the most. Hetty prepares Callen to go undercover. Callen says he is going to get Cole to attack him. Nate suggests he doesn't give Cole time to think before he reacts.
