A couple on a jet ski video tape themselves towing their friend on a wake board. Another jet skier loses control and crashes on the shore. A group of people examine him and find he was shot.

At headquarters, Hanna suggests that Callen live on a boat. Nate notices that Dom is filming him. Dom says he took an undercover training course. He asks the team what happened to the guy he replaced, but they don't tell him.

Hanna figures that Nate's office is still being worked on. Hetty calls the team to the ops room. She plays them a tape of the shooting. She explains that the victim, Daniel Su, worked in the DARPA project. She explains that the police suspect the North Koreans killed him since Su defected from the country. They wonder why he was killed so late after he defected. They figure the DARPA contract raised his bounty. Callen learns Su rented a jet ski at the same place every week and wonders if the killer waited for him.

Downstairs, Hetty finds Nate reading a comic book. Nate says he is reading a graphic novel. He says the novel is deep, but she says she thinks he can get more from a normal book. She asks him if he knows if the other agents didn't pass muster and advises he doesn't know.

Callen and Hanna go to Daniel's house and knock. Callen discovers the door is unlocked. They enter and find blood stains on the walls and the house ransacked. Hanna notices a bloody lamp on the floor. They look closer and find the body of a woman.

Back at headquarters, they learn the dead woman was named Sally Morris, who provided Su money for his company. Dom wonders if Su died because of business reasons. Hanna looks at Su's wound and figures he was shot from above.
