Sonia finds Lauren smoking a cigarette next to her bed. Lauren admits that since she fell out of her wheel chair, she needs new underwear since she soiled herself.

Mike helps Simone fix Chris's car that she borrowed. Mike admits that he wouldn't have help her if he knew that the car belonged to Chris. Mike says he took her advice with her vision quest and ended up in Atlantic City. Simone tells Mike that she was fired and thinks that the owner of the bar wants to sell.

Back in the woods, Veronica spots Eli face down in a frozen lake bed. Veronica starts chest compressions after they see he has no pulse. They bring him back to the hospital and see his core temperature is 74 degrees which needs to be raised.

Paul returns home and explains he took out a bunch of clients that turned out to be a night with old friends. After Paul drops a bag of drugs, he explains it is heroin. Sonia informs Paul that his mother took a fall earlier.

Mike tells Simone that since he just bought the bar, he is going to rehire her. After he says he went to Atlantic City because of her, she tells him she deserves a raise.

Veronica and Chris learn that the ecmo, the only machine in the hospital that can bring raise Eli's temperature, is currently hooke up to Carly. After Veronica asks the parents if they can use the machine, they get angry and refuse. Joe comes in and suggests they turn off the machine briefly and let him perform a bronchoscopy to clear Carly's airway. He says there are some risks, but the parents agree to let him operate. In the hallway, Veronica gets upset that Joe set her up. Joe explains she set up by making his solution seem reasonable. He compares their relationship to Fred and Ginger if Ginger was an angry nurse.

Joe performs the bronchoscopy with the help of Chloe. After Carly's stats gets worse, Chloe tells Joe that he should have not have given up the ecmo. Chloe starts to worry, but Joe says Carly will get better. Moments later, Carly starts to recover.

Under the guidance of Chris, Veronica starts the ecmo machine on Eli. Beth says she went out looking at the stars with Eli. She explains after Eli sprained his ankle, she left him at the ranger station. While she looked for help, she got lost. Beth regrets leaving Eli alone without his mother, but Chris tells her if she didn't seek help no one would have found them.
