At home, Elliot tells his son Dickie he is going to be late to school. He says he is waiting for his friend Shane to pick him up. Dickie finds a file that Elliot is working on and recognizes it contains info about Nikki Sherman who said she was raped by a football player. Dickie says everyone calls her a lying slut. Elliot tells him not to talk about a victim like that. Dickie says he saw topless pictures of Nikki on Shane's phone.

At court, the defendant says Nikki wanted to have sex with his client and changed her story. The judge suggests Alex ask for more time to investigate. After the judge calls for a recess, Nikki's dad tells Alex that his daughter didn't recant her story. Alex assures them they will win the trial. Olivia and Elliot tell Alex they gave her all of the evidence they obtained and there was no recant. Alex says she is being investigating by the state bar. The team meets with Liam Black from the state bar association. Liam says he knows they like to bend the rules.

At the station, Cragen informs Elliot his son Dickie is missing. Elliot goes home and meets with his wife and Detective Anita Gomez. Kathy says Dickie disappeared after he got in a fight at school. Elliot tells Gomez that he thinks Dickie might be with his friend Shane who is a drug user. Elliot says he wants to find Dickie himself. Kathy tells Gomez that Dickie got in a fight with David Proctor. Gomez suggests they activate Dickie's GPS signal. Elliot gets a call and learns Dickie tried to withdraw cash using an emergency credit card at a bank.

Elliot goes to Shane's house and meets with his mom. She says Shane relapsed twice, but he is now clean. Elliot says Shane is bringing down Dickie. He asks for a list of Shane's friends and informs her Dickie is missing. The mother says Dickie is not perfect. Elliot drops off a contact card in case either of them get a hold of her.

Elliot returns to the station to work on the rape case. Elliot explains he wants to work the case while looking out for updates about his son. He suspects Dickie is trying to give Shane money to buy drugs. The team informs Cragen that Nikki and the suspected rapist Sam Baylor disagree that the sex they had was consensual. The team says Nikki never recanted her statements. Elliot says Dickie mentioned there is a photo of Nikki floating around the internet. Cragen instructs Munch to find the photo. Elliot says he didn't have time to mention it to Alex. Cragen suspects Elliot's personal problems is affecting his work, but Elliot denies it.

Elliot learns that Shane's car was impounded from Harlem. Elliot wonders what is going on with Shane. Cragen tells Elliot to go to the school while they find more evidence about the cases.

At the school, Olivia and Elliot find David Proctor drinking outside. He admits he beat up Shane after he sold him a stolen DVR that his mom took back. David says Dickie and Shane are always talking to the Army recruiter on campus. Elliot meets with the recruiter and tells him Dickie is still a minor. The recruiter suggests he sign a parental waiver to let him join the Army. Elliot says Dickie is going to college. The recruiter says he will no longer have a say in two years.

The team returns to the station to look at ATM footage. They see Shane use Elliot's credit card to try to withdraw money. They see someone behind Shane who doesn't look like Dickie. Fin says the other guy doesn't show his face. Fin says Dickie made a call in Harlem. Munch shows the team Nikki's photograph which shows her topless and having a good time during the party. The team asks Alex to talk to Nikki. She tells them it is their fault they didn't find the photo. Alex sees Fin bring in Shane's mom. Elliot explains his son and Shane are missing. Alex tells Cragen that Elliot is messing up her rape case. She says Elliot should not work on a personal investigation.
