Gossip Girl is a juicy drama centered around the lives of a group of wealthy, attractive teenagers. The show highlights struggles with school, family life and relationships. Best friends Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf are the "it" girls, but their friendship is strained by secrets and betrayals. Nate Archibald and the dark and somewhat antisocial Chuck Bass are another best friend duo with complications arising in their friendship. Also in the mix is the less affluent Humphrey family consisting of brother and sister Dan and Jenny and their former rock star father Rufus. Jenny works in fashion and frequently fails to impress her impossible boss. The parents also have their own dramas including drug use, affairs, and secrets of their own. The show hinges on the heard but not seen 'Gossip Girl' who runs a blog detailing the lives of the show's main characters.

Serena and Nate continue their charade as a couple to conceal Nate's affair with a married woman, Blair returns home from abroad with a new man and Chuck becomes jealous, and Jenny crashes the Hamptons' White Party.

Blair is intent on becoming royalty by marrying Marcus, but Chuck crushes her plans when he tells her Catherine is Marcus's stepmother. Meanwhile, Dan gets tangled up in his lies and discovers his family is bankrupt.

Blair is concerned about the lack of passion between her and Marcus while Chuck discovers he can only perform for Blair, Nate grows closer to Vanessa, and Jenny finds her job is in danger.

It's the first day of Senior year and the gang heads back to school. Blair interviews potential 'victims' and 'projects' while Serena finds it hard to face the prospect of seeing Dan everyday. When she runs into him, she hides before he can see her. Dan meets the new girl, Amanda, and arranges a lunch date. Serena and Blair spot them together and you can almost hear Serena's heart break. Jenny finds that it's better to be ignored than tortured, but it seems like she still wants to find a way back into the 'it' gang. Vanessa runs into Nate and, keeping to her bargain with Catherine, turns him away.
