Family Affair 10.1

Catherine takes a call and says that the department has been swamped since Riley unexpectedly left. Ray practices on how to identifies knife wounds by stabbing a block of ballistics gel. Conrad tells Ray he is promoted to CSI level 2 because of his willingness to learn.
The team assembles at a vehicle accident scene where there are two fatalities. Brass says the case is high priority because one of the the victims is an actress named Olivia Hamilton. An Asian man runs past the police line and screams for Olivia. Ray finds pulverized rubber under the tire of the SUV that hit Olivia's car and says the driver of the man who drove the vehicle kept his foot on the gas after the crash. The paramedics are able to revive the driver of the SUV.
In the morning, the SUV that hit Olivia's car is pulled away. They find no horizontal scrape marks on the car which indicates that Olivia was stopped when the SUV hit her. By looking at the tire marks, Ray and Nick figure that the SUV gradually steered toward Olivia's car without any attempt to stop. Katherine gets a call and tells Sanders to investigate an unrelated dead body found at a nearby motel. Sanders complains, but Nick tells him not to question a superior officer.
At headquarters, Brass meets with Tom O'Neil, a owner of a protection company, and his client Denny, who was the Asian man at the scene. Brass asks Tom to step out of his office while he talks to Denny. He tells Brass that Olivia was on her way to a movie set. Denny asks Brass to put a bullet in the head of the man who killed Olivia. Brass tells him that since his father is a owner of a casino, he should say statements like that out in public.
Sanders examines the body of a man who was beaten and killed in a motel room. He finds a partial denture with a fiber in it. Olivia's body is brought back to the lab. Al says that there were no drugs or alcohol in her system. He adds that Olivia was 8 weeks pregnant when she was killed.
Ray learns that Richard, the driver of the SUV, was drunk at the time of the accident. Richard is still alive, but suffers from a broken neck. Ray figures since the paramedics found Richard not wearing his seat belt, he broke his neck when his head hit the airbag after the impact.
Conrad tells Katherine that since it seems like her department is stressed, he is going to add another CSI to her team. Katherine says she doesn't want anyone new. The team goes through Richard's vehicle and belongings. Nick finds a vial in Richard's bag and has it sent to be analyzed. They open up a book and find several photos of Olivia and fan mail. Nick figures Richard was stalking Olivia. Katherine looks over Olivia's itinerary. Nick tells Katherine that Richard had Olivia's schedule in his laptop and thinks he hacked into the production company's computers. Ray says there is some inconsistencies with the theory that Richard wanted to ambush Olivia. He believes the knife and duct tape found in Richard's car makes it more likely he wanted to kidnap Olivia. However, the fact that Richard didn't wear a seat belt makes it seem like he was suicidal. Ray says Richard might have wanted to achieve fame by killing someone who was more famous. Ray and Nick disagree whether or not Richard wanted to kill Olivia.
Brass goes to Richard's hospital room and sees that he is conscious but dazed. He tells Brass that he killed Olivia. Brass says he knows he went to the set where he was soon kicked out. Richard says that Olivia loved herself.
