The police assemble at a suburban residence. The team takes Agent Anderson around where he sees a group of dead bodies.

JJ is interviewed by Strauss who asks if she thinks Hotch stepped down since his ability to lead was compromised. JJ says Hotch's recent behavior can be described as driven. JJ says that they have been looking for Foyet after he sent two letters. She explains they are searching for a combination of drugs that Foyet became addicted to after he stabbed himself while he posed as a victim. The show jumps back in time to a drug store. JJ feeds her baby as Henry watches. She tells Henry she wouldn't know what to do if she was in Hotch's shoes. After the pharmacist suggests she replace antihistamine by crushing a Clariten, JJ figures that Foyet could have done the same.

JJ tells Hotch her theory and figures they narrow their search by looking for drugs that Foyet can't subsitute. Agent Anderson tells JJ that they have located where the letters originated from. In the computer room, Kevin shows Garcia a bacon donut.

In the present time, Strauss questions Garcia about what happened. Garcia says she thinks people are asking the wrong questions. Strauss asks if she thought that Hotch was acting agitated or unreasonable. Garcia rememebers when Hotch asked her to look for drugs that can't be substituted. Garcia asks if Kevin can help her. Garcia sees that Foyet needs Tapazole which can't be substituted.

The rest of the team wonders where Foyet is since the letters were sent from two different towns. Garcia reports she found a drug that can't be substituted. Spencer figures that since Foyet likes to have meaning in his names. Spencer anagrams Foyet's moniker, the Repear, and finds the name Peter Rhea. The team finds an address for Peter and figure he is Foyet.

Strauss asks David why they didn't enter Foyet's apartment after they learned where he was. David tells Strauss that there is no point to the questioning since they can't prevent what happened from happening again. David says he had to be sure Foyet was there. He explains it was an impossible decision. Strauss asks who made the choice.

The show jumps back to when the team watched Foyet's apartment. Derek wonders what they should do since the SWAT team is getting ansy. Derek sends an agent posing as a super to knock on Foyet's door. After there is no answer, the agent inserts a camera under the door. The team sees that the mail has been piled up at the door. Hotch leads the team as they rush into the apartment. They barge in and figure that something tipped Foyet off. They see his laptop and ask Garcia to look at it. They see that Foyet had an internet alarm for the name Peter Rhea. They also see that Foyet has been staking out Marshall Kassmeyer, the person who is in charge of protecting Hotch's family.

Strauss asks Spencer what happened. Spencer says it would be easy to blame Kassmeyer, but it is not what happened. He remembers when they went to Hotch's family's safe house and found Kassmeyer shot in the living room. Kassmeyer says he tried to protect Hotch's family. He remembers seeing Foyet in his house when he came home. Foyet shot Kassmeyer's legs and feet as he demanded to know where Jack and Haley are. Afterwards, Foyet cut off his fingers. Foyet told Kassmeyer that he needs him alive to get a message to Hotch.

Strauss asks Spencer if he thinks Kassmeyer was at fault, but Spencer says it was not.
