Criminal Minds Season 5 Episode 6 Recap and Review The Eyes Have It - Page 2

Emily reports that the unsub probably dumped John's body at the farm site because he was familiar with the area. David figures the unsub strategically watched the girls from the parking garage, which is different from most enucleators. The ME tells the team that John, the first victim, had his eyes ripped out. She says the girls had their eyes cleanly removed with a surgical like instrument. Spencer figures the unsub is keeping the eyes.
Later that night, a woman falls behind while jogging with her friends. She trips after the unsub pulls a line that tangles her feet. The man gets behind her, slashes her throat, drags her into the bushes, carves out her eyes, then leaves.
The team investigates the body. The detective learns the victim is named Tracy Cooper. Garcia asks how Derek is doing. They tell her he is stressed but doing fine. JJ asks her to do something at the office to help Derek.
Derek, Hotch and Emily find a trip wire in the bushes. They examine Tracy's ankles and see they are bruised. Derek says the killer has the behavior of a game hunter. David says it bugs him that the unsub hasn't made a mistake. JJ tells Derek the case made national news and people are calling the unsub the Eye Snatcher. Derek instructs JJ to hold a small press conference. JJ tells Derek she knows he is not returning Strauss's calls, but he says he is too busy. Hotch tells him to call Strauss while they take care of the details. David tells Hotch that even though Derek is temporarily the leader, when it is time for him to step down, he is not sure if he will.
The team briefs the Oklahoma police. They tell them the first known victim was random while the others were chosen. The unsub is more in control than most enucleators. He lays in wait and might have a hunting background. They believe he is comfortable in his neighborhood. He has a delusional self imposed timeline that forces him to go on a murder spree. JJ holds a press conference and says the man is driving a van or truck. David says the man might be medically trained, but fell short of being a doctor.
Later, the unsub watches a couple hang out at a park. Derek gets a call from Strauss and apologizes for not talking to her. He informs her about their progress. He says they have no suspects yet, but they know he is hunting now. Strauss tells Derek that there are people who want him to succeed and checking in to see if he has everything he needs to do his job.
Back in the park, the unsub breaks into the electrical box and starts to turn off the light posts. The woman says she is freaking out, tries to call, but there is no reception. They notice someone approaching them and hide in the woods. The man tells his wife to go down to the car at the bottom of the hill, but she trips. The unsub, who is using night vision goggles, finds and kills the couple.
David finds Derek spent the whole night in the office. David tells him to step away to get a fresh look. The rest of the team arrives. Brantley tells Derek that they found two more bodies.
At the park, Emily figures the killer used night vision. Hotch sees that the man didn't have his eyes cut out since they were imperfect. Derek figures the eyes were used for trophies. The team wonders if the unsub was a taxidermist. Garcia informs the team that John wrote a check to a business called Lloyd's Wild Game Shop. She says Lloyd is dead, but he had a son named Earl who has a history of animal cruelty. Meanwhile in the shop, Earl gets a call from a debt collector and smashes the phone. He remembers when he killed John after he was unhappy at the way he set the eyes of the animal he stuffed.
Garcia informs the team that Earl's mom went blind because of a disease and died after she had a car accident. When he was a kid, Earl tried to gouge the eyes out of another student. They figure that since his dad died, there was no one to check up on him. Garcia informs them that Earl's home and business is being taken over by the bank. The team arrives at the game shop. Derek sees blood on the floor, then breaks in. They see a large collection of stuffed animals. Derek figures that the blood came from John. Hotch figures Earl was sleeping there. He uncovers a stuffed animal and sees it doesn't have eyes. Derek figures that Earl used the victim's eyes to put into animals.
Emily figures that Earl only knew hunting and taxidermy. Meanwhile, Earl brings a stuffed animal head to a female customer. Earl tells the woman he needs something from her. The team figures Earl is killing near where he met with his clients. Hotch and Brantley meet with Earl's last customer and see he just left after she paid him in full. They locate Earl's van nearby. Meanwhile, a woman is attacked in the street. She sprays him with pepper spray as she tries to fight him. Hotch hears the commotion and goes to investigate. He finds Earl hovering over the woman as he is about to gouge out her eye. Hotch apprehends the man then goes to help the woman.
Derek tells Hotch he should have waited for backup, but Hotch tells him he wouldn't have waited. Derek brings Earl to the station. JJ says they are packing up to go home in an hour. Earl says the the first victim was mean and deserved to die. He tells JJ that she has pretty eyes. Derek says he might need more than an hour. He visits Bina's sister and informs her the eyes are being processed and will be delivered to the funeral home of her choice.
Back home, Derek finishes up reports late. Meanwhile, Hotch is in his office working on the Foyet case. Garcia asks Derek to help her. She notices the necklace that Tamara gave him. Garcia shows Derek a new office he can take since another agent is retiring. She opens up a drawer full of toys and a picture of her. Garcia tells him she will leave him alone so he can get comfortable. Derek calls Tamara and asks her if they can have drinks.
