At home, Castle asks Alexis if she would tell him if she killed anyone. Martha tells Castle that Alexis is watching Hayley's final concert on her laptop. Castle says watching seems dark since Hayley sang about death. Alexis informs Castle that Hayley was being symbolic. She explains Hayley was into tarot cards where the death card means transformation and change. Martha compares the song to the Beatles, but Alexis doesn't want to hear it. Alexis receives an update on a website and learns that Sky is going to be hired as the Hayley's former band's new lead singer. Castle figures the band is able to use their original name since after Hayley died, the rights went to Sky. They see that John McGinnis, Hayley's former manager who got her first hooked on drugs, is reforming the band. Castle figures John had the most to gain from Hayley's death.

The police bring John to the station. He says he was in Philly when Hayley was murdered. Beckett tells him they know he has a record of selling drugs. John says he made Hayley into a star. He is upset Hayley walked away from her after she made it big. John says since the band is back together, everyone is happy. Beckett asks him if he killed her for profit. John dares them to arrest him so he can get the publicity. Beckett wonders if John is bluffing since he knows he is screwed. Ryan reports that John called Zack the day before Hayley died.

Beckett and Castle go to meet Zack and find him fighting with Sky. Zack says Sky went crazy while they practiced. Zack says he didn't kill Hayley since he was at a gig. Beckett tells him they know he took three half hour breaks. She asks him why John called him. Zack admits John knew Hayley wanted to get back with her sister. John's plan was to get the band together by drugging Sky and using her to convince Hayley to rejoin them. He says Sky was too wasted, so he went to Hayley himself. He says while Hayley was writing songs in a coffee house, she freaked out every time she got a phone call. He says he saw Death was on the caller ID.

The team wonders who was considered Death to Hayley. Because of the lyrics, Castle figures Death is a woman. He explains in tarot cards death is equal to change. Beckett asks who could represent change and Castle jokingly figures Hayley hated Obama. They figure since Bree sent Hayley to rehab, she was the biggest change in her life. They hear Sky crying in the parking garage. She explains she was upset after singing her sister's words and hearing her voice.

At the station, Ryan tells Beckett that he found ca redit card trail showing that Bree was at a pharmacy. Esposito gives Beckett the receipt which shows Bree bought the same red lipstick that was put on Hayley when she was dead.

The police go to Bree's studio and she admits she saw Hayley the night she died. She says she left Hayley a message to pick up her stuff at the house. She says after Hayley came by, she offered Haley drugs to convince her to stay and finish her record. Beckett tells Bree that Hayley was clean. Castle sees a wall panel that looks newer than the other ones. Behind the panel, they find a bullet hole.

They bring Bree to the station. Beckett tells her she suspects she grabbed Hayley while she shot off her gun and accidentally broke her neck. Bree says she didn't kill her and won't lie that she did.

Castle and Beckett look for Sky at a warehouse where Zack told them she would be. They find Sky in the corner shivering while going through withdrawal. She says John offered her a bonus of a place where she can do drugs, but she is staying clean.

At home, Castle updates Alexis on the case. Alexis listens to one of Hayley's last songs. Castle hears Hayley sing that someone who helped her stepped across her threshold. Castle figures they have the wrong killer. Castle plays the song to Beckett. She realizes they have the wrong person. Later, Beckett and Castle tells Bree she is free to go after she signs some paperwork. They bring Bree and Ian to a room and tell her Hayley helped them find their killer. They play her song and enlighten them about the hidden meaning of a father figure, betrayal and violation. Bree says she took a sleeping pill the night Hayley died. Beckett says they got her phone record and suspect Ian stole her phone then texted Hayley to trick her to meet him at the studio by posing as Bree. Ian says Hayley was the one who seduced him. Beckett tells Ian it was smart to stage the crime scene like the stalker video, but he won't get away with it.

Beckett informs the team that Bree filed for divorce after she found out what he did to Hayley. She says Perlmutter found gunshot residue found on Ian's coat. Later, Sky holds a memorial concert in honor of her sister.
