Harum arrives at the station. Beckett tells the team to see if Harum has any reaction to Jay. Harum admits he knew Fink's work were fake. He explains his friend's wives in Bahrain are shallow. He adds the women only care about labels and he uses that fact to make money. He says he met with Fink after he called him, but was told to leave after he got in an argument with Jay. Beckett says she is not done with her questions, but he says he is. Esposito says they found video showing Harum at the time Fink died.
Beckett and the team goes over the evidence they have on Jay. They see that there is gun powder residue on his clothes. Castle grabs a plastic bag and explains it will tell them who Jay is. Castle figures Jay had a bag since he had a dog. They go to the kennel and find the dog that was on the street the night Fink died. They learn that the dog belonged to Jeremy Preswick. Beckett informs Jeremy about his life and that he has an ex-wife named Emma. Ryan brings in Emma who is thanked by Jeremy. He tells her it must be weird for her to come out and help him. Beckett asks Emma where Jeremy works and he says he doesn't. Emma explains Jeremy is crazy smart, had a business, then sold it. Jeremy asks Emma why they split up and she says they were both jerks. Jeremy says he doesn't recognize her, but she is gorgeous. Emma explains she hasn't spoken to Jeremy in over a year.
Beckett takes the team to Jeremy's apartment in which he doesn't recognize. Castle finds a wallet and tells Jeremy he doesn't think he was mugged. Castle sees a large collection of books including his mystery series. Castle sees a Taglia, which is an expensive painting. Emma explains Jeremy was supposed to sell the painting after their divorce and gave her half of the money. She is surprised he kept it. Beckett finds a 9mm with five bullets missing.
At the station, Beckett asks Lanie if it is possible that Jeremy shot Fink. Lanie says the wounds on Fink's wrists indicate that he turned the gun on Jeremy then shot. Castle remembers that Jeremy was in a fugue state and wonders if he dropped off the gun then went back out. After arresting Jeremy, he thanks Beckett for telling him who he is. Jeremy asks them to tell him if they figure out why he shot Fink.
Castle tells Beckett he can't believe Jeremy is going to be convicted for a murder he doesn't remember. Beckett says the smoking gun is enough to convict. Castle says he wants to know the motive. They return to Jeremy's apartment and find Emma getting prescriptions for Lucy, Jeremy's dog. Emma says she thought there could be a second chance with Jeremy. She says it was like they first met. Emma explains Jeremy was forced to buy the Taglia since he smudged it with his thumb at an artist's studio. After Emma notices that the thumb print is not there, Castle and Beckett realize it is a fake. They figure that it is the connection between Fink and Jeremy.
Beckett and Castle meet with Harum as he is loading his car. Harum explains he has diplomatic immunity. Beckett asks Harum's driver if he has his license since he is double parked. After the driver says everyone in New York double parks, Beckett says he is resisting arrest, then searches the car. Inside, they find the original Taglia painting. Beckett tells Harum he could either cooperate or have the State Department called. Harum admits he asked Fink to obtain the Taglia. He says he was sent away, but was sold the painting later by Darius Langley.
The team brings in Langley and tells him they have a report by Jeremy's super who said he was bribed to be let in his apartment. Langley confesses he switched the painting in Jeremy's apartment with a fake. Beckett and Castle tell him they know he took on his roommates identity in order to land the job at the gallery. They tell him they also know his real name is George Heller and has two other felonies for forgery and counterfeiting. They describe their theory that Fink found out about his real identity which forced him to shoot Jeremy and Fink. Beckett tells George that they know he bribed the super twice. She explains the second time was when he planted the gun after he learned Jeremy lost his memory.
Later, Castle and Beckett release Jeremy and return his painting. Castle asks Emma if they are back together and Emma says what matters is they like each other. Ryan asks how long he thinks they will last. At home, Martha shows Castle a dead flower and explains it is a boutonnière she gave Chet during prom. She says Chet is asking for a second chance and she is afraid of what is going to happen. Castle advises she make new memories.
