As a real estate agent shows a couple a house, they notice a smell. When they get to the bedroom, they find a pile of ashes next to a foot.

Booth tells Sweets and Bones that his grandfather is going stay with him for a while. He explains he left his nursing home after he punched a staff member. Booth says his grandfather just wanted to smoke a cigar in his room. His grandfather Hank comes in and calls Booth shrimp. Hank meets Sweets and figures he looks too young to be a doctor. Booth gets a call and learns about a case. Hank tries to volunteer, but Booth tells him he can't come along. Sweets volunteers to take Hank home.

At the scene, Bones asks Booth if he can handle taking care of his grandfather. The team meets with Katy, the real estate agent, and Howard the owner. Booth asks for a list of people who had access to the house. They see the ashy remains of the victim. They notice a birthday cake on one of the tables. Bones asks them to move carefully since the hand of the victim is about to crumble. After she receives a can of hairspray from the real estate agent, she uses it to keep the hand intact. Booth suspects that the man died from spontaneous combustion, but Bones has her doubts.

The team moves the mattress to the lab. Hodgins says Booth might be right about how the victim died. He says there are cases which shows fat could catch on fire. Clark and Bones figures the victim was set on fire postmortem since there are no signs of flailing. Cam reports the body showed no indications of drugs of alcohol. The staff is surprised after Clark says he feels moved by Booth's decision to take in his grandfather. He explains he was close to his own grandfather who he called Gramps. Clark believes that the victim was a female since the foot shows signs of Haglund's Deformity which is caused by wearing ill fitting shoes. They figure the victim was obese. Hodgins finds an orange goo on the mattress.

Booth learns that Hank was found by an officer at the park. While he says Hank was disoriented, Hank takes the phone and admits he was turned around. Booth tells him he will be there to pick him up. Katy arrives at the office and gives Booth a partial list of people who had access to the house.

Angela says she is making a three dimensional rendering of the hand. Hodgins reports that he found the orange goo came from a polyester material he suspects was a wig. Angela scans the material and finds it came from a polyester vest worn by employees from a retail store called PriceCo.

While Booth drives Hank, he announces he has to make a stop for his case. Hank says he is upset people are thinking he is going senile. Hank says if he wants privacy with Bones, he could go away. Booth assures him there is nothing going on between them.

Booth arrives at PriceCo and tells Hank not to wander off while he speaks to the manager. A customer mistakes Hank as a greeter and asks him where she could find the electrical tape. He walks her to the correct aisle. Booth learns that an employee named Meg has not reported for work. Booth finds Hank wearing a vest. He explains people thought he was a good greeter and was offered a job.

The team reviews Meg's file and notice she weighs less than they expected. They wonder if she recently lost weight. Clark sees that the foot matches Meg's medical records. Bones figures there was so much ash because there were two victims who died. Clark determines there were three hundred pounds of human. He finds the second victim was male who weighed two hundred and eighty pounds.

Booth, Bones and Hank have lunch and discuss the progress of the case. Hank says he suspects the store manager who was mean to him. After Bones tells Hank about the improvement of drugs over the last fifty years, Hank says he likes her. Booth gets a call and is notified that they brought in Stephanie, Meg's roommate. After Booth leaves, Bones tells Hank that Booth was lucky to have him after his father walked out on him. Hank says he believes it was his fault that he left. He explains he kicked out Booth's dad after he saw him beating Seely. Hank asks Bones to tell Booth the truth when the time is right.

Booth informs Stephanie of Meg's death. She says she was Meg's weight loss buddy, but she didn't lose as much as Meg did. Booth asks if she knew who Meg was dating. She says Meg met dates at Club Jiggles, which frequented men who had fetishes involving eating food off of larger women. Stephanie says she was at a house party when Meg died. He asks her for a list of people who can confirm she was there.

Angela tells the team she was able to reassemble a leg bone using the fragments. They figure the victim was 5'5" and weighed over two hundred and eighty pounds.

Booth and Bones consult with Sweets about the club Meg went to. Sweet says there is a fetish group called feeders and eaters who find pleasure with food and fondling of fat. Sweets suspects Meg was obsessed over food and developed the need to feed other people.
